The SMARTS Center at the Asian Institute of Technology participated in the International Energy Workshop 2025, held in Nara, Japan from June 11 to 13th. The IEW continues to be a leading platform for sharing frontiers of research by the global energy research community. Being held in Asia, regional participation was remarkably high.
Distinguished Professor and Director Joyashree Roy delivered a keynote address on Demand Side Solutions for Mitigation: Where, Why, and What We Need to Know Now.
Postdoctoral researcher Dr. Firuz Ahmed Nahid presented ongoing research under the EDITS-AIT project on the strategic power sector planning for Bangladesh using PyPSA modeling, highlighting the benefits of incorporating demand-side strategies with renewable energy integration.
Research Associate Ninaad Desai, on behalf of the team, engaged in the EDITS-AIT project, shared insights from ongoing research on estimating the cross-sectoral mitigation potential of various demand-side measures, contributing to increasing the evidence base for demand side strategies.
