Two members of the SMARTS Center presented at the International Conference on Sustainable Energy (ICUE 2024) on Energy Transition and Net-Zero Climate Future.
Dr. Firuz Ahamed Nahid, SMARTS Postdoctoral Researcher, presented "PyPSA-BD: An Open-Source Model for Planning a Sustainable Power Sector for Bangladesh." His research explores capacity expansion and long-term planning for decarbonizing Bangladesh’s power sector by 2050, demonstrating how integrating renewables and storage systems can support this transition through three scenario-based analyses.
Avrojyoti Barua, a SMARTS-supported Master's student in Sustainable Energy Transition, presented "Towards Net Zero: Comparative Analysis of Energy System Modeling Approaches for Decarbonizing the Electricity Sector." His work reviews various modeling tools to assess their strengths and how they can be applied in developing countries to design low-carbon energy futures.
