“Circular Economy for a Sustainable Future: What Matters for South Asian and Southeast Asian Countries?“ Prof. Joyashree Roy presented the SMARTS research and findings for policymakers, industry leaders, sustainability practitioners, and many more at the session on “ESG & BRSR: Driving Sustainable Business Transformation” at the 19th Environment Partnership Summit, organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce. Kolkata, January 8, 2026.
To create green economies that mitigate the consequences of the production and consumption systems through the application of the “Circular Economy” 🟢 —a system that maintains resources and reduces or ideally eliminates waste. The session includes:
✔️ The fundamentals of the circular cycles and the trends of waste trade in South Asia and Southeast Asia
⏩ The 7-functions that accelerate the process of systemic transformation were tested with the experts to understand the state of the circular plastic economy’s progress in the Indian context.
The Circular Plastic Economy: Bridging theory and practice to train future leaders in sustainable plastics research developed under the CPEN network.
✍ The circular plastic economy is much more than just recycling.
