Climate Change and Us: Discussion and Pledges

Seminar organized by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Change, SERD, AIT

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Change welcomes you all to join the seminar on 'Climate change and us: Discussion and Pledges' on Sunday, October 24th, 2021, to commemorate the 'International Day of Climate Action' to promote awareness of the reality of climate change and encourage personal commitment to change. Doing nothing will end up costing us a lot more than if we take actions now that will lead to more jobs, greater prosperity, and better lives for all while reducing green- house gas emissions and building climate resilience.

Speakers:

  • Professor Vilas Nitivattananon, Dean-SERD, AIT

Professor Vilas Nitivattananon is currently the Dean of School of Environment, Resources and Development, AIT, and has been a faculty member in the Department of Development and Sustainability since 2004. Prof. Vilas is an accomplished researcher and academician in the trans-disciplinary field of systems approach in management for urban, strategic water and infrastructure development, urban competitiveness and resilience, climate change, urbanization and tourism, waste cycling and circular economy, and environmental impact assessment. He has published many peer-reviews journal articles, delivered numerous invited talks and carried out several sponsored projects and international outreach activities in these areas.

  • Professor Joyashree Roy, Inaugural Bangabandhu Chair Professor, AIT

Dr. Joyashree Roy is the inaugural Bangabandhu Chair Professor at Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. She is also a professor at the Department of Economics, Jadavpur University, India (on lien currently). She is a national fellow of the Indian Council of Social Sciences Research (ICSSR) and a past Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at LBNL, California, USA. She is the recipient of the 2021 Paradigm award of The Breakthrough Institute. She served in the IPCC( Intergovernmental panel on Climate Change) -2007 Nobel Peace Prize winning panel and is continuing as a Coordinating Lead Author in the sixth assessment cycle of WGIII, of IPCC. She has been a chapter author of Global Energy Assessment, was associated with the Stern Review Report and many other global and national reports in the context of climate change. She is part of the 2012 winning team of Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water. She has published more than 145 peer reviewed journal articles as well as authored and edited books. Her research interests include: economics of pollution and climate change, modeling energy demand, water demand modeling and pricing, sustainable development, valuation of environmental services, and coastal ecosystem service evaluation.


On Sunday, the discussion will be on how climate change is impacting our lives and how we can contribute in solving the problem. All interested are welcome to join the seminar.
